The Opportunity
We are looking for an Early Career Geochemist (Level 1 or Level 2) to to join our growing team.
Whether you are a recent graduate or have a few years of consulting or industry experience, this role is designed for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, is eager to learn, and wants to build a career in geochemistry.
At HydroEQ, early career scientists don't spend years doing only one narrow task. From the beginning, you'll gain exposure to a wide variety of projects across the mining industry while working alongside experienced geochemists and water quality specialists. You'll be supported by structured mentorship, increasing technical responsibility, and a clear career development framework that outlines what success looks like and how you can grow within the company.
What You Will Do
Working alongside experienced project teams, you will contribute to a variety of geochemical and water quality investigations, including:
Technical Work
Support ARD/ML assessments and geochemical characterization studies
Compile, manage, QA/QC, analyze, and interpret geochemical and water quality datasets
Support conceptual geochemical model development
Coordinate laboratory testing and sample management
Participate in field programs, including sampling and site investigations
Prepare figures, tables, and technical report sections
Project Delivery
Complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard
Track progress against project schedules and budgets
Communicate proactively with project managers regarding progress and potential issues
Develop practical solutions to technical challenges with support from senior staff
Contribute to high-quality deliverables for mining clients across Canada
Learning and Development
One of the primary focuses of this role is learning. You'll receive mentorship from experienced consultants while developing your skills in:
Geochemistry
Water quality interpretation
Predictive modelling
Technical writing
Project delivery
Consulting
Client communication
As your experience grows, you'll take on increasing responsibility, greater independence, and more technically challenging work.
What You Bring
We are interested in candidates who are curious, collaborative, and motivated to learn. Ideally, you will have:
MSc or PhD in Geochemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline
0–6 years of relevant experience
Eligibility for (or current enrollment in) a professional registration program (e.g., GIT, EIT, P.Geo., or P.Eng.)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A collaborative, team-first mindset
A willingness to travel occasionally for field work
Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
ARD/ML assessments
Geochemical modelling
Mine waste characterization
Data analysis using Excel, Python, or R
Technical report writing
